Proposal for webisodes
Each webisode will be focused on the different phases of the higher education process, featuring testimonials from students, their parents and their teachers.
Webisode 1:
This webisode will feature first impressions of higher education; students who have just joined their course. It will open with a question: When you think of college, what is the first word that comes to mind? Then there will be shots in quick succession, filmed at different places within college, of each student that has been chosen to represent their respective course, saying the word they think of, then it will end on one student as they also get asked what their first impressions were and what they hope to achieve from the course.
The place where they work will be in the background, along with one of the standing college posters. The interviewer will be someone who is just starting their second year of their course, preferably someone studying media as they will be familiarised with the equipment within their course.
A boom microphone will be placed above the head of the student and a handheld microphone will be held by the interviewer. If any of the shots are filmed outside the lighting will be ambient, however if the shot is filmed inside lighting will be used to create a back-light for each student being interviewed.
The interviewees will be dressed either casually or with the specific uniform for their course.
Webisode 2:
This webisode will be focused on what it has been like for the students after they have finished the first term of their course. Topics discussed will be: work load, teacher support, the facilities and the favourite thing they have done in their course/ their favourite aspect of the course. These topics will be put to a table of five students, all of whom have finished their first term. Each of the five students will be chosen from different courses.
The interviewer from the first webisode will also be included in these shots as it will be in a focus group type setting. The table will be set up in a room of the college, preferably a room in the Q block of the college, the students will be arranged in a row with the interviewer sat on the left hand edge of the table. Behind the students will be one of the standing college posters. The group will then be asked "by a show of hands who is doing A-Levels and who is doing BTEC?" They will then be asked what is good about A-Levels and what is good about BTEC.
The lighting will be from the light fixtures within the room, but also with the windows uncovered. A boom microphone will be placed above the students' heads to provide a boost sound, but the voices will mostly be heard through the microphones that have been set up to stand on the table in front of them and the interviewer will have their hand held microphone.
The interviewees will be dressed either casually or with the specific uniform for their course.
Webisode 3:
In the finale of the webisodes the point of focus will be on those reaching the end of their course, their parents and their teachers. There will be one on one interview with each student, parent and teacher.
The presenter will be out of shot asking the questions, each question will be followed by a sufficient answer, and then the next question will be asked.
The students' questions will include: How has the course prepared you for the future? What are your plans after college? The parents' questions will include: Do you think their course has prepared them well for their future plans? Were the teachers able to motivate your teenager to bring them to their full potential? The teachers' will answer one question which is: How well has your student coped with their course? Each of the student interviewees will be filmed in their chosen work area, the parents will be filmed at the college gates, and the teachers will be interviewed in an area of their choosing, most likely their office, or a place that has the equipment specific to the course they teach. If possible the standing college poster will be incorporated in the background but not disturbing the point of focus.
Outside filming will use ambient lighting, but the inside shots will again be set up to light the backdrop of the interviewee making their silhouette prominent. The hand of the interviewer with the microphone will be in shot, and will be pointed at the interviewee when it is their turn to speak.
The student interviewees will be dressed smartly to show how they would appear when pitching their ideas, the teachers will be dressed how they normally are during class time and the parents will dress as if they were attending an awards ceremony for their teenager.
